  Dope-Ah-Mean series

The deconstruction of a painting to its three basic materials: canvas, wooden frame and oil paint. Instead of using these materials to create an illusionist depiction of space I wish to engage their inherent natural properties through various burning and chemical techniques. The paintings break the flat painting plane and engage the wall space, allowing wall color to come through and shadows to appear. The visual tension within the paintings pull from the organic movement in the oil paint and the folds of the canvas against the hard linear burnt wood frame.

All paintings consist of wood, canvas and oil paint.
